Martin Marietta’s cement and Southwest Division ready mix sites gleamed during the 2024 awards season, earning recognition from various organizations across several categories.
The Texas Aggregates & Concrete Association (TACA), which represents most of the aggregate, cement, and concrete industries in the state, awarded Martin Marietta’s Celina Cement Terminal the title of Best Plant in the cement category of its 2024 Public Appearance Contest.
“This award is an honor and a direct reflection of the Celina team and our continuous commitment to ONE Team, ONE Purpose, and ONE Future,” said Cement Terminal Supervisor Brooke Barron. “We take the world-class standard seriously, from making the effort to maintain a clean facility to taking the time to be Wingmen to everyone who passes through the terminal.”
Adding to this tremendous win, several more Martin Marietta sites earned commendable awards in the association’s 2024 Safety Contest. The San Antonio Maintenance Shop and Dallas Plant Maintenance took home honors in TACA’s Plant Facility Maintenance Division, while Poteet Sand Plant, Beckmann Quarry, and North Bridgeport Quarry won in the Aggregates Division.
Martin Marietta sweepers in Dallas won in the Aggregate Transport Tanker Division, and Markum Ready Mix was recognized in the Ready Mix Division.
A particular highlight was TACA’s decision to recognize Laboratory Supervisor Juan Lopez, a ONE team member who works in the Ready Mix Quality Control Lab in Hurst, Texas. Lopez was given the Professional Division Champion Award in TACA’s 2024 Lightweight Concrete competition.
“Juan is a diligent learner who works to ensure that he researches every aspect possible when confronted with a problem. He takes pride in accomplishing what others cannot,” said Southwest Division Vice President of Technical Services Michael Whisonant.
TACA was not the only organization to bestow honors on Martin Marietta’s Southwest Division teams. The Portland Cement Association (PCA) named the Midlothian Cement Plant one of its 12 Chairman’s Safety Performance Award winners. Additionally, the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) honored the Terrell Ready Mix Plant as one of its 2024 Environmental Excellence Award winners. This year also marks the 10th consecutive year that Martin Marietta’s Southwest Division has been named an NRMCA Excellence in Quality Award winner.
“Safety is our foremost value and business priority, and the first of our operating principles at Midlothian Cement,” said Plant Manager Alberto Calleros. “Our employees’ dedication and commitment to this ethos have helped place us among the top 10% in the industry.”
Ready Mix General Manager Darryl Youngblood felt similarly about the team at Terrell.
“We are so proud that our Terrell facility was awarded the Environmental Excellence Award,” he said. “This is proof of the dedication, attention to detail, and overall pride our employees possess and demonstrate on a regular basis.”
