Northern lights dance above Martin Marietta’s sites

Overhead in the soft autumn skies, parts of the United States were treated to a dazzling display of the aurora borealis, or northern lights, which illuminated the night across the country.

Powerful bursts of energy from the sun streamed past Earth, painting the sky with dancing red, green and purple hues. These lights were spotted across a vast portion of the nation, reaching as far south as Texas, Alabama, Georgia and even Florida, which is highly unusual.

Fortunately, several of Martin Marietta’s sites were situated beneath these breathtaking colors, allowing our ONE team members to witness the incredible spectacle firsthand.

This rare phenomenon occurred due to multiple eruptions of energy from the sun, which interacted with Earth’s magnetic field. The charged particles collided with gases in the atmosphere, creating the stunning northern lights that rippled across the sky.
