Monthly e-newsletter promotes companywide safety

The Guardian Angel First: Safety E-Newsletter is a monthly publication designed to promote safe work

Every month, the Guardian Angel First: Safety E-Newsletter, which focuses on the company’s safety priorities, is emailed out.

“Understanding our shared safety goals and the best practices to help us achieve them is incredibly important,” said Vice President of Safety & Health Michael Hunt. “This monthly newsletter is chock-full of information that can help our team members excel in safety and help all employees make it home without incident at the end of the day.”

Each newsletter contains safety tips, resources, and updates in an easy-to-read format designed to engage every member of the Martin Marietta team.

Leading most editions of the newsletter is the “Quick Links” section, which provides readers with easy access to brief presentations and other materials focused on specific safety topics. Presentations are typically no longer than 10 slides and are designed for site leaders, safety champions, and others who may lead group safety discussions in an operation.

Also included in the newsletter are detailed videos, safety updates, informational materials, housekeeping tips, and a host of other resources designed to facilitate safe work.

“We strive to make sure each newsletter includes tools that will help our people think about safe practices,” said Communications Specialist Amy Elder. “We work closely with safety professionals across the company to identify relevant and timely safety topics and then make sure all content is clear and engaging.”

Additionally, to ensure all members of Martin Marietta’s ONE team are speaking the same language when it comes to safety, the newsletter features a “Common Safety Language” term of the month.

“The newsletter is a fantastic tool,” Hunt said. “Plant managers, safety professionals, and other operational leaders should review the material each month to ensure they understand our safety goals and practices and can communicate that information clearly to their teams. When it comes to safety, we want to make sure we’re speaking with ONE voice.”
