Capital District leaders recognized for commitment to safety

Several East Division team members recently earned recognition for their continued dedication to safety

Several East Division team members recently earned recognition for their continued dedication to safety. The Maryland Transportation Builders & Materials Association presented multiple safety-focused awards during a ceremony in 2024, and six Martin Marietta team members were honored as champions of safe work.

Five earned the Ed Tracey Distinguished Supervisor Safety Award, which recognizes outstanding leadership and continuous contributions to advancing health and safety practices within the Maryland and Washington, D.C., communities:

  • Scott Bosley, plant manager at Churchville Quarry

  • Jake Marble, foreman at Medford Quarry

  • Trevor Swart, office manager at Texas Quarry

  • Rosiland “Roz” Werthen, plant manager at Medford Quarry

  • Bobby Woodman, plant manager at Pinesburg Quarry, Boonsboro Quarry and Warfordsburg Quarry

Colin Fromille, a foreman at Churchville Quarry, was also recognized by the organization for his “exemplary commitment to people and job safety.”

“These leaders go beyond enforcing safety policy and regulation,” said Capital District Safety Representative Osvaldo “Tony” Perez. “They embrace each opportunity and approach safety with creativity.”

Perez, who works closely with each of the winners, said they consistently embrace the Guardian Angel safety culture.

“These leaders make a daily commitment to safety that contributes greatly to the positive safety culture we foster across all of our operations in Maryland,” Perez continued. “They routinely walk their areas to make their presence known. They are not afraid to communicate face-to-face, and most importantly, they model positive behaviors.”

Capital District Vice President-General Manager Marc Kmec said he is honored to have this crew represent Martin Marietta as leaders in “the most important metric: safety.”

“Scott, Jake, Trevor, Roz, Bobby, Colin and so many more of our team members are on the front lines every day,” Kmec said. “They lead with safety no matter what task or challenge is in front of them and they do so with sincerity and a sense of duty.”

Area Production Manager Jerry Green agreed.

“Each of them leads by example and will not ask the team for something they are not each willing to give,” Green said. “It’s an honor to lead, and be a part of, a team that exemplifies our Guardian Angel safety culture.”
