The West Division’s Rocky Mountain Asphalt & Paving teams earned major recognition recently during the 31st annual Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association’s (CAPA) “Best in Colorado” Awards.
The group earned high marks throughout the event, ending the night with eight awards, including:

Area Project Manager Nick Guerra said he was awestruck and honored to have so many of the team’s projects recognized for their excellence.
“Seeing these team recognized by CAPA is an honor, but more than anything, it is a validation of the discipline, grit and coordination that went into a relentless 2024 season,” Guerra said. “Our crews and teams executed what few could: zero grind, night paving, high volumes, tight timelines—and they never backed down.”
In 2024, the Asphalt & Paving team delivered over 220,000 tons of hot mix asphalt across three major corridors of I-25. Through excellent work and dedication, the group delivered amazing results while providing incredibly high-quality materials, Guerra said.
“Every award earned is a reflection of how this group operates: with pride, clarity, performance and an uncompromising commitment to safety,” he said. “I could not be prouder of how they showed up and delivered.”
In a similar fashion, the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) presented Martin Marietta’s Rocky Mountain Region with a 2024 Quality in Construction Award for excellence in construction of asphalt pavement.
The Southern Colorado A&P team was recognized for its exceptional work on the El Paso County Overlay Program. The team employed a range of advanced treatments to enhance road quality, including full-depth reclamation, leveling, milling and overlay, and full reconstruction.
The team also incorporated reclaimed asphalt pavement into its asphalt mixes, which is a sustainable paving practice that conserves natural resources, cuts emissions, reduces landfill waste and improves pavement longevity.
“The asphalt pavement industry is committed to building high-quality projects that deliver superior performance to the traveling public. All contractors’ projects earning a Quality in Construction Award are measured against best practices designed to live up to that commitment,” said 2024 NAPA Chair Brady Meldrem.
“Earning the Quality in Construction Award demonstrates that Martin Marietta’s Rocky Mountain Region has met or exceeded these rigorous standards.”
