Martin Marietta Composites uses fiber-reinforced composite materials to enhance the performance of our truck bodies. Benefits of using composites include:
High Strength-Lower Weight
Composite materials have a high strength to weight ratio. This weight reduction translates into higher payloads and lower transport costs.
Corrosion Resistance
Fiber-reinforced polymer materials are resistant to corrosion and deterioration from chemicals, acids, road salts and weathering. They do not rust and are not susceptible to oxidation.
Durability
Composites are resistant to fatigue and made of highly durable materials.
Ease of Repair
Small repairs can be easily accomplished using a fiberglass repair kit. For larger repairs, components can be replaced quickly without causing any loss of strength.
High Insulation Values
Testing has indicated high insulation properties compared to standard truck body materials.
Refrigerated Truck Body (in Development):
Because of the structural sandwich panel, in combination with the highly efficient thermal insulating panel-insert, metal reinforcements are eliminated in the walls, roof and floor providing a lighter and more thermally efficient reefer body. This means smaller and lighter refrigerating systems are needed. |
