Martin Marietta Aggregates provides a full spectrum of products to diverse construction and nonconstruction markets. Approximately 50 percent of aggregates products are used in infrastructure projects such as road construction and maintenance. A significant portion of aggregates is used in a variety of commercial and residential applications such as foundations and sidewalks.

Aggregates end-uses include the following:

Roads
Ninety-six percent of all paved roads in the United States are surfaced with asphalt, which is a material composed of asphalt oil, sand and gravel that is heated and applied to the road surface.

Commercial and residential construction
Ready mixed concrete is a blend of aggregates, cement, and water. Due to its durability, low cost and ability to be customized for different applications, ready mixed concrete is one of the most versatile and popular building materials.

Railways
Ballast is an aggregate product used to line the tracks of railroads.

Erosion control
Jetty stone is used to stabilize ocean beaches and inlets.

Agriculture
High-calcium limestone is used in animal feed and as a soil supplement to help grow agricultural crops.

Other industrial uses
Chemical-grade limestone is used as desulfurization material in coal-fired electric utility and industrial plants. It is also used as a filler in the manufacturing of paper.
